Dr. East brings more than two decades of cardiovascular experience, published cardiovascular research, and participation in numerous clinical trials to the care of patients with heart failure.
Our focus is improving symptoms and quality of life, preventing progression, and reducing hospitalization and cardiovascular complications.
Heart failure can result from several cardiovascular conditions. Common causes include:
Cardiomyopathy or heart muscle disease
Heart valve disease
Long-standing high blood pressure
Abnormal heart rhythms
Coronary artery disease and prior heart attack
Heart failure occurs when the heart cannot pump effectively or cannot relax and fill normally enough to meet the body’s needs.
Heart failure may occur because the heart’s pumping function is weakened (systolic heart failure) or because the heart does not relax and fill normally (diastolic heart failure).
Both can cause shortness of breath, fluid retention, fatigue, and reduced ability to exercise.
We work to understand why heart failure developed, what is driving your symptoms, and how it is affecting your overall cardiovascular health.
When appropriate, we perform cardiovascular testing in our office to evaluate heart function, rhythm, and response to treatment. We interpret those findings in the context of your overall health and use them to personalize your care.
Treatment may include evidence-based medications, fluid and blood pressure management, risk reduction, and careful ongoing follow-up.
